If you’re working with a digital marketing agency, they’ll need access to your ad platforms – Google, Facebook and Instagram – to actually do the job you hired them for.
But handing over your login details? Absolutely not.
You can give your agency the exact access they need, without compromising your security or losing control of your accounts. You stay the owner.
You stay in control. But now your agency can actually get to work.

Giving Access to Google Ads
To run or optimise your ad campaigns, your agency needs access to your Google Ads account – not your Gmail password.
Here’s how to grant access properly:
If you’re not using a Manager Account (MCC):
- Log into your Google Ads account
- Click the Tools & Settings icon in the top right
- Under Setup, click Access and security
- Click the blue + button to invite a user
- Enter your agency’s email
- Choose the appropriate access level:
- Admin: Full access, including billing and user permissions
- Standard: Can create and manage campaigns, but can’t manage users
- Send the invite – they’ll get an email to accept
If your agency uses a Google Manager Account (MCC):
- Ask them for their Manager Account ID
- Give them your Google Ads Account ID (top right of your dashboard)
- They’ll send a request to access your account
- You approve it via the same Access and security panel
This keeps your login private and lets you revoke access at any time.

Giving Access via Meta Business Manager (Facebook & Instagram)
Meta Business Manager is where you manage access to your Facebook Page, Ad Account, Pixel and connected Instagram profile. Your agency should be added as a partner with specific permissions – not as a person logging into your account.
- Go to Meta Business Settings
- In the left menu, select Users → Partners
- Click Add, then choose Give a partner access to your assets
- Enter your agency’s Business Manager ID (they’ll give it to you)
- Choose the assets to share:
- Facebook Page
- Ad Account
- Pixel (if installed)
- Instagram account (if linked)
- Assign permission levels like:
- Manage campaigns
- View performance
- Admin (if they’re handling strategy, content, billing etc.)
This allows your agency to launch and optimise campaigns without needing access to your personal Facebook login.
Linking Instagram Correctly
If your Instagram isn’t connected to your Facebook Page and Business Manager, your agency can’t run ads or access analytics.
Here’s how to link it properly:
- Go to Meta Business Settings
- Click Accounts → Instagram Accounts
- Click Add, then log in to your Instagram account
- Confirm it’s linked to your Facebook Page
- Once added, return to Partners and assign access to the Instagram account, just like you did with your Page and Ad Account
Also double-check that your Instagram is set up as a Business or Creator account in the Instagram app:
Go to Settings → Account → Switch to Professional Account if needed
Without this setup, your agency will be locked out of key features – and your campaigns will suffer for it.
Never Share Passwords
There’s no reason to send login details over email, Slack or shared documents. If a platform doesn’t allow user-based access, use a password manager like 1Password or LastPass.
But for Google, Facebook and Instagram – use permissions, not passwords. It’s cleaner, safer and 100 percent reversible.
Before You Hand Over the Keys, Double Check This List
Make sure your agency has everything they need:
- Google Ads access (invite or account ID)
- Facebook Page access
- Facebook Ad Account access
- Facebook Pixel access (if applicable)
- Instagram account access (via Meta Business Manager)
- Confirmed Instagram-Facebook linking
- Your own admin access, so you stay in control
If anything’s missing, campaign delays and miscommunication are almost guaranteed.
